Brain Death Compatible with Individual Death

Abstract
The traditional concept of death based upon only the cessation of cardiorespiratory function has changed, and the new concept of death based upon the demonstration of a permanently nonfunctional brain has been socially and legally accepted in
many
nations of the world.
However, many people still view suspicion any declaration of death not based upon th etraditional cessation of cardiac activcty in Korea, there is a growing interest in the thesis that the brain, no longer functions, life is at an end.
The author explains the concept and criteria of brain death and insists that the best safeguards against suspicion of error are : well written guidelines, adequate time to establish the diagnosis, two doctors of adequate experience, and permanent
record
of the diagnosis and the time of death in the case notes.
The concept of brain death might be better accepted as the basis of individual death soon in Korea.
